Why Go Green?

Hello and welcome to this exploration of architecture! As a college student completing his master's degree in architecture, I am actively learning aspects of purposeful design elements. My studies, along with my passion for the outdoors and anything green, drive me to the principles of sustainable building.

Major constraints in building include costs, time restrictions, longevity, and relevancy. All restrictions can be bettered with the mindful choices of green construction and environmentally conscious practices. I hope to learn specifically what elements and procedures prove to be most beneficial in design and what the incoming technology is introducing to the field of sustainable architecture. As tools for design advance, the practice for the design and construction of buildings may become increasingly efficient, but can it also become as environmentally conscious and long-lasting? I aim to focus on advancing systems for not only efficiency in architecture, but also in sustainability and total footprint.

I believe the procedures by which buildings are designed, demonstrated, and constructed are most insightful in showing how building processes can be improved for a lasting future. By investigating this process, new choices for construction can be made where it may be most needed for environmental improvement and public health. The largest achievements in global footprints can be achieved when the entire procedural construction chain is investigated. From here the steps can be separated and analyzed to determine where and how certain mechanics of construction can be improved. Such knowledge may also show the importance of sustainability in such a large-scale field. This page may help myself and others learn the importance of mindful design.

Through my classes and altering media sources, I can utilize their information to further my understanding of green building. My involvement in the college's Green Building Council (USGBC) will serve as another source of environmental development in the professional workspace. These inlets of sources will introduce me to specific tools, materials, and processes by which the field of architecture can advance toward a greener and longer future. My exploration of sustainable design fulfills my passion of creating to care for others. My learning of quality construction works to answer the question: why go green?
